Dave Williams used to run a club in prudhoe, when Andy was starting his teens he wanted to play in a band so his dad thought start learning instruments see where it takes him, he then bought him a guitar he learnt a couple of chords and when his dad was putting bands on he would encourage Andy to get up and do a number with the band that had been booked, for a while like anybody new he was shite then every band that was on he got up and did a couple of numbers, then they got a band together some like it hot. All this time he was unwell with his heart, then he had a transplant. He would go anywhere for very little money and play all the time improving he lost his brother then his mam, but his dad kept him going. Then he got cancer getting chemo, they started doing quite a lot of recording and gigging but the cancer kept coming back Andy and Dave Heslop backed all the big stars that played in this country he never stopped he would rehearse then play have an hours kip then go again next star next band even when going through chemo then he had to have another heart transplant which would have been fine if the cancer hadn't returned he rejected the new heart because of the chemo, last time I saw him play was about a month before he died and he was up their with the best on the circuit in this country.
